Some big companies are operating animal processing plants in Missouri. Now some farmers in central and northeast Missouri have gotten a grant from the state agriculture department to see if they can set up their own hog processing plant. State agriculture director John Saunders is confident those cooperatives could be operated without the problems the big corporate processing plants have. He says it would not be a big plant employing hundreds of people, but it could process a lot of hogs if the plant materializes.
