Missouri delegates to the Republican convention are laying aside past disputes about the party’s nominee. John McCain’s speech last night may have unified the party under George W. Bush. McCain’s support in the state was always hard to pin down–many of his proponents were fellow veterans. In fact, there are no McCain backers in the Missouri delegation at all. Several delegates were early supporters of Alan Keyes. Both Debi Demien of Wentzville and Merre Putnam of Carthage say they were skeptical of Bush’s conservative credentials, but were swayed by, among other things, his choice of Dick Cheney as Vice Presidential nominee.
