Dave Szott says he’s ready to play for the Chiefs. Szott had requested a trade this off-season so he could be closer to his family in New Jersey. Instead, the Chiefs will give Szott Mondays and Tuesdays off so he can return home each week. Szott says he’s satisfied with that arrangement. He has started at left guard for the Chiefs for the last ten years. Guard Wil Shield will probably miss the start of training camp Friday. Shields does not have a contract. Chiefs president Carl Peterson says the team will not negotiate a long term deal with Shields until he accepts their one-year offer for 4.1-million dollars. If Shields signs a one-year deal, then negotiates an extension, the Chiefs can use their franchise player tag on someone else next year.Defensive end Eric Hicks will be in camp on time. Hicks agreed to a four-year contract. He started all 16 games at left end last year.
