Monica Seles, one of the biggest names in tennis, will visit Springfield tonight to play against the Springfield Lasers in World TeamTennis. Seles, formerly the number one women’s player in the world, is the marquee player for the Hartford Foxforce one of nine franchises in the league. Missouri has three teams, the Springfield Lasers, the Kansas City Explorers and the St. Louis Aces. The Aces feature Wimbledon champ Venus Williams as their marquee player. Springfield general manager Tom Adams says the league has several other big name players, including Serena Williams, Mary Pierce, Martina Navratilova and Jim Courier. Marquee players compete only in selected matches for their teams.Springfield opened its season last night on the road in Kansas City, where the Kansas City Explorers scored a 21-19 overtime victory.
