A St. Joseph man is spending this Independence Day with the Purple Heart Medal he should have received 56 years ago. But don’t ask Marvin Stegman to tell you much about the battle that left him wounded. Injuries he suffered from a German artillery blast in 1944 left him in a coma for 3 days and wiped out any memories he had of it. Stegman says he thought he deserved the honor in the past, but nothing came of it until Congresswoman Pat Danner got involved and got him the recognition he deserved.
