Pat Hentgen had one of his better outing for the Cardinals, but the bullpen, which has been very good lately, was very bad as the Reds came back to win 7-3. Hentgen fought through five shutout innings, and left with a 3-0 lead. Alan Benes came on in relief to start the sixth, and immediately allowed four runs, including Benito Santiago’s three run homer to give the Reds the lead. Cincinnati added three more in the 7th on Sean Casey’s two out, bases-clearing double off reliever Mike Matthews. Ray Lankford hit his 11th homer of the year for the Cards. The Reds pull to 7 and 1/2 games out once again. They’ve taken two of three in this series, with the finale set for tonight. Andy Benes will pitch against Ron Villone.
