Cincinnati has inched closer to the Cardinals in the standings. Denny Neagle scattered 7 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings, and former Cardinal Dmitri Young hit a tie-breaking homer in the 5th to give the Reds a 3-2 win. The loss trims the Cardinals’ lead in the Central to 7 and 1/2 games, with six more against the Reds in the next ten days. Reds closer Danny Graves retired Mark McGwire on one pitch in the 8th, then worked a perfect ninth for his 11th save. Neagle has done a great job against the Cardinals lately. He is 9-5 against St. Louis in his career, and has won 7 of his last 8 against the Cards. St. Louis starter Garrett Stephenson has lost four of his last five outing to fall to 9-4. Ken Griffey Junior hit a two run homer in the first, and Eric Davis tied it with a two run shot in the 4th.
