The tragedy at the Randolph County jail emphasizes the importance of a secure jail there. However, voters in Randolph County defeated a quarter-cent sales tax to finance construction of a new jail last fall. Missourinet affiliate KWIX interviewed Bob Bauer, a member of the task force that studied the issue before the issue came to a vote. He doesn’t know exactly why voters defeated the tax issue. And Bauer says it was obvious the facility was needed. Sheriff Don Ancell has now closed the present jail and moved inmates to other counties until the present jail is made more secure for employees.
