Not many pitchers have shut down the Royals this season, but Anaheim’s Jarrod Washburn did. Washburn gave the Royals just four hits in 8 and 1/3 innings, and beat Kansas City 3-1. Washburn was pulled in the ninth after giving up two singles. Carlos Beltran then singled in the Royals only run against Angels closer Troy Percival. Kansas City nearly had another comeback, as Jermaine Dye flew deep to left with two men on, but Darin Erstad fought a fan to catch the ball and rob Dye of a home run. Mac Suzuki pitched well again for the Royals, allowing three runs in seven innings, including a two-run homer by Erstad. Suzuki is 3-1.
