Missouri’s first foray into regulating large chip mills will include mostly voluntary measures. That’s if Governor Carnahan agrees with the 1 1/2 year long study by the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Chip Mills. The group recommends education and voluntary regulations to encourage better land management. Environmentalists wanted new legislation limiting clearcutting the state’s lower Ozarks. The committee held it’s last public hearing last night before finalizing a report expected to side with landowner’s rights.
