Hickman Mills can boast two state championships in track and field this year. The school won the class 3A titles for both boys and girls. Lee’s Summit won the 4A boys title, led by Matt Tegenkamp, who set a new state record in the 3200 meter run. Girl athletes set five new records: Normandy’s Chloe Davis in the 100 high hurdles; Shaneatra Neely in the 300 low hurdles; Jennifer Drum of Smith-Cotton in the high jump; Joplin’s Lindsey Bourne in the pole vault; and Kansas City Central in the 4 by 200 relay. Central won the Class 4A girls title. The other boys championships were won by Berkeley in Class 2A, and Viburnum in 1A. Southern Boone County won the 2A girls title, while Worth County won in 1A.
