Andy Benes loves pitching against Philadelphia. Benes raised his career record to 17-6 against the Phillies, by hitting a home run, and scattering ten hits over seven innings, leading the Cardinals to an 8-2 win. The home run was the seventh of his career, second among active pitchers to Dwight Gooden, who has eight. Jim Edmonds launched a home run into the upper deck, a rare feat at Veterans Stadium, and drove in three runs. Edgar Renteria had three hits. The Cardinals have won all four of their games with the Phillies this year. The Cardinals, still searching for a lefthanded reliever, have purchased Jose Rodriguez from Memphis. He was 0-1 with a 0.96 ERA, and lefthanders were hitting .182 against him. Larry Sutton was sent back to Memphis to make room for Rodriguez.
