No relief for the Royals. After a decent start by Jeff Suppan, relievers Jay Witasick and Jason Rakers gave the A’s eleven runs in four innings, and Oakland pounded Kansas City 14-5. Witasick pitched just one inning, allowing five runs, and Rakers allowed six runs over the final three innings. Center fielder Carlos Beltran left the game after spraining his wrist on a spectacular diving catch. X-rays on the wrist were negative, but Beltran is questionable for this weekend’s series against the first place Chicago White Sox. Royals outfielder Jermaine Dye is the American League player of the month for April. Dye hit .388 and led the league with 11 homers and 12 doubles. The Royals are off today.
