The Blues are done. San Jose stunned St. Louis, finishing off a first round upset with a 3-1 victory in game 7. The Sharks took the lead early, as Ron Sturn scored 2:45 into the game. Then with ten seconds left in the first period, Owen Nolan took a slapshot from center ice that deflected off Blues goalie Roman Turek and into the net. The Blues trailed 3-0, after Jeff Friesen scored in the second period. Scott Young scored a power play goal early in the 3rd, but Steve Shields made several big saves to send San Jose into round two. The Sharks were called for a four-minute penalty and the Blues even had a brief two-man advantage in the third period, but couldn’t capitalize. The Blues had the league’s best record in the regular season, but were unable to win the series after rallying from a 3-1 deficit to force game seven. The Sharks were seeded eighth in the Western Conference.
