Republicans in the Missouri legislature call on the governor to ban the gasoline additive M-T-B-E.M-T-B-E has been used for years in reformulated gasoline to cut air pollution in Kansas City and St. Louis, but allegations have surfaced that it contaminates surface and groundwater.House Republican leader Delbert Scott of Lowry City says traces of M-T-B-E have been discovered in a school water supply in Hillsboro as well as the Scott County public water supply. A private water supply near Table Rock Lake has also reported problems.Representative Gary Marble of Neosho says M-T-B-E poses a unique problem, because soluble. Republicans favor a switch to an ethanol-blended fuel.
