Associated Wholesale Grocers has stepped up security at its plants in Springfield and Kansas City as a deadline nears for reaching a deal with the teamsters union. The grocery distribution company plans to let outside companies handle its warehouse and shipping departments. A teamsters spokesman says Associated is trying to intimidate the teamsters with the high security tactics. Associated also has flown in replacement workers who will start their jobs Monday if the teamsters don’t reach a new agreement.
