Missouri Southern State College has a new football coach. Defensive coordinator Bill Cooke has been promoted to head coach, replacing Greg Gregory who resigned Monday. Gregory is leaving to become offensive coorinator at the University of Richmond, his alma mater. Gregory is a Richmond native and still has family there. After Gregory’s resignation, Cooke asked athletic director Jim Frazier for the job. Frazier introduced Cooke as the new coach later that day. Cooke served as interim head coach for Missouri Southern in 1988, following Charley Wade’s resignation. He coached the Lions to a 3-7 record. The Lions were 8-13 the past two years under Gregory. Missouri Southern opens spring practice next Monday.
