James Hampton, the man who was executed this week at the Potosi prison, told a St. Louis newspaper columnist he committed six murders other than the ones for which he was convicted. But Post-Dispatch columnist Bill McClellan says Hampton refused to give any information about them because he did not want to do anything that would stop his execution. McClellan says he suggested Hampton send him a letter that would be received after the execution took place, so anybody doing time for Hampton’s other murders might be freed. But Hampton refused. McClellan says Hampton told him the others were innocent citizens who threatened his personal freedom.
