The Nature Conservancy is trying to raise ten to 15-million dollars in Missouri to buy and preserve one of the state’s last large segments of unplowed tallgrass prairie, and other natural areas. The conservancy is a private group that acquires significant natural areas and preserves them until government agencies can afford to assume custody of them. The biggest target in Missouri is the Dunn Ranch, near Eagleville, almost three thousand acres of tallgrass prairie. The next most important acquisition will be the Chilton Creek Reserve, more than 56-hundred acres near Van Buren, which is part of the Ozark watershed.
