The people who run the oldest jail in southeast Missouri hope their voters approve a special sales tax next month to replace it. The Scott County jail in Benton is 68 years old. It has remained open only under a special agreement with federal judges. Sheriff Bill Ferrell tells the Cape Girardeau Southeast Missourian his jail is built the way people used to build dungeons in the 16-hundreds.
