High-speed police chases are banned in Kansas City, with few exceptions. Officers can chase a car if there is a threat to the safety of others, such as a serious traffic violation or a drunk-driving suspicion. Officers making emergency calls have to make complete stops at all red lights and stop signs, even if they have their red lights and sirens going. The study of hot-pursuit policies in Kansas City was stated last year after several incidents. Officers say it is not connected with a double fatality acccident involving a patrol car that ran a red light and crashed into a pickup truck.
