I really wish Southwest Missouri State had won lost night. They’ve had a great year, but now I’m nervous. SMS is an easy team to like. Coach Barry Hinson is sometimes goofy, but always polite, and the best quote in the state. The five seniors on the team led the Bears on an improbable run to the Sweet 16 a year ago, and I’d love them to get a chance to try it again. And if they hadn’t suffered a mid-season swoon, they’d be headed back to the tournament without question. Before last night’s game, I thought they had it made, but now doubt is creeping in. Creighton gets the bid, and they weren’t supposed to go to the big dance. Two teams from the Valley will definitely get in, but will the committee take three? If they do take three, SMS and Indiana State will go, but what if they have to choose between the two? SMS has a better RPI, but the Sycamores won the regular season title. They both SHOULD go, and I think they will. But if underdogs keep winning conference tournaments… look out Bears.
